Nothing But Net – Warehouse Safety Netting Cost-Effective Fall Protection
Prevent Worker Injuries & Costly Inventory Damage with Warehouse Safety Netting
How do you prevent loose items on pallets and stacked on shelves from falling into pedestrian areas and warehouse equipment? Whether racked or stacked, a cost-effective solution is warehouse safety netting. While typically thought of as a pallet rack accessory, this adaptable product can be used for a variety of protective solutions.
What is Warehouse Safety Netting?
Warehouse safety netting is a warehouse tool that increases worker safety and reduces inventory damage by preventing items from falling from your rack or from tall, stacked inventory. It is made from heavy-duty nylon or polypropylene and is available in several load capacity ratings and sizes. Rack netting is engineered for the application including the weight of the loads and it fastens easily with steel cables, eye bolts, or brackets, depending on the type of netting. The safety netting is flexible yet strong, allowing some give if an item falls but containing and stopping it from falling to the ground and injuring workers or damaging equipment below.
Benefits of Warehouse Rack Netting
- Safety – Protect pedestrian pathways from falling items
- Prevents items from crowding flue space between back-to-back rack rows
- Reduces cost through inventory damage
- Available in light- to heavy-duty capacity, cold storage compatible, and fire retardant
Additional Warehouse Rack Netting Applications
- Warehouse rack netting is traditionally mounted to the back of pallet rack systems; however, it can also be used around machinery, conveyor systems, and other warehouse equipment to prevent accidental interference.
- It can be mounted to free-standing anchored frames or posts to isolate floor-stacking zones from pedestrians (see photos above and right)
- It can be mounted horizontally, such as under carton flow tote storage to catch loose items.
Full or Partial Coverage – There’s a Safety Netting for That

Warehouse safety netting can be used to cover a wide area of your rack system or warehouse space, but it is also handy for small concentrated areas. Safety netting is available in modular panels or bulk rolls to satisfy your needs. Note, you may require several sections of safety netting to complete the designated area.
Tips for Taking Measurements:
Full Coverage:
Start your measurement from the outside of the rack upright or independent support system and continue to the outside of the opposite frame.
Partial Coverage:
Measure the area between the uprights or posts that you want to be covered.
Pallet Rack Bay Coverage:
Take the measurement of the bay length from inner post to inner post – Confirm the span of each bay because beam lengths and installation processes can be different. This is an imperative step to guarantee that your pallet rack safety netting will cover the required area properly. Include the width of the uprights if covering multiple bays.
How to Account for Pallet Overhang:
If you are using your warehouse safety netting on a rack system with pallet overhang, that will affect how the net is mounted. If there’s 0-3” of overhang, the netting can be mounted directly (flush) to the uprights and beams. For greater than 3” of overhang, you will need specialty brackets to accommodate the distance.
