Pallet Rack Extensions Create 20% (or More) Pallet Positions 

Buffer stock, increased production, expanding SKU lines… there are a number of reasons that may leave you needing more storage capacity. Pallet rack extensions are a cost-effective option that can be implemented quickly and provide the increase in pallet positions that you need.

We recently completed a pallet rack extension project for an automobile parts manufacturer that illustrates this scenario. It took just a few days to install, and our customer was up and running with 20% more pallet positions in their selective pallet rack system, which was enough to handle their extra stock needs.

Selective pallet rack systems are single-deep, multi-level storage racks that take advantage of vertical space to provide orderly storage with easy access. Forklifts have 100% SKU selectivity to each pallet in a selective rack system. Their simple design makes them a great candidate for rack extensions as long as you have the ceiling clearance height. The WOI team designed and installed the existing pallet rack system making it easy for us to go back to the original manufacturer for the rack extensions. We were assured that they would meet the rack specifications precisely, right down to the colors, capacities, and bolt patterns.  This is important for the warranty and safety of the system.

The rack rows were back-to-back to eliminate aisles and maximize floor space. The height-to-depth ratio remained within the recommended 6-to-1 ratio with the extensions, so we did not need to add additional support elements to the individual rack rows. The rack manufacturer also confirmed that the new system did not need updated capacity signs, which ensure that the warehouse team knows maximum capacity and proper use.

Our OSHA-trained professional installation team managed the installation on time and on budget and met the WOI 100% customer satisfaction goal. Our expert rack installers know the best way to tackle a project to ensure timeliness, safety, and cleanliness. We have team members on staff that are certified to operate the necessary classes of vehicles (like the scissor lift required) to complete this rack renovation. Each day a progress report is completed to ensure we stay on top of the work, any changes and are prepared for the next day’s tasks.
